Single-use eDNA Dual Filter capsule: efficient on-site water filtration

This single-use eDNA filter capsule is engineered for on-site filtration of large volumes of environmental water with minimal risk of cross-contamination. It features enclosed filter membranes with a pore size of 0.22 micron, optimized for microorganism filtration to ensure comprehensive eDNA collection without rapid clogging. The compact design incorporates two separate membranes, maximizing membrane surface area.

The eDNA Dual Filter Capsule can be sealed with luer lock caps post-use, facilitating in-capsule lysing and preservation. It is also suitable for room temperature storage. During eDNA extraction, all solid residues are retained on the membrane, preventing interference with downstream processing. The capsule adheres to the CEN/TC 230 – Water Analysis – N 1229 standards.

Compared to traditional filtering methods in eDNA studies, the eDNA Dual Filter Capsule can filter nearly 10 times more water and eDNA than a filter funnel and 20 times more than a Sterivex filter. This results in significantly higher eDNA yields.

*Note: The filter capsules are designed for vacuum filtration, meaning that water should be drawn into the filter rather than forced through it. When using a pump to push water through the filter membranes, ensure that the maximum inlet pressure is not exceeded. For instance, a rotary vane pump can easily generate high pressures, which may cause leakage in both the inner and outer structures of the capsule.
